Manual: Differs Contrarian Collector

A deep-dive masterclass on the "bet against the crowd" strategy.

Core Idea: "Betting Against the Crowd"

Welcome, students! The Contrarian strategy is built on a statistical theory called "reversion to the mean." In simple terms, it assumes that over time, the frequency of digits (0-9) will balance out.

Therefore, if one digit appears unusually often in a short period, it's statistically more likely that other digits will appear soon to restore the balance. The bot identifies the "over-represented" digit and places a DIGIT DIFFERS trade, betting that the next tick's last digit will be ANYTHING EXCEPT that dominant digit.

Example in Action

The bot's tick history looks like this:

[...9, 1, 7, 3, 7, 0, 7, 7, 2, 7, 4]

The bot sees that the digit 7 is dominating the recent history.

Decision:

The bot places a trade: "I predict the next tick's last digit will be DIFFERENT from 7."

  • If the next tick ends in 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, or 9 -> YOU WIN! (90% chance)
  • If the next tick ends in 7 -> You lose.

All Settings Explained

This section breaks down every single setting available in the "Differs Contrarian Corrector" panel in the bot GUI.

Strategy & Risk Limits

Symbol
The specific market the bot will trade on. Markets ending in "(1S)" are faster and have higher volatility, which can create more opportunities but also carries more risk. Standard indexes are generally slower and more stable.
Currency
The currency of your Deriv account that you wish to trade with (e.g., USD, tUSDT).
Initial Stake
Definition: This is the amount of money you want to risk on your very first trade. Think of it as your base "bet size."
Recommendation: Start very small, especially on a real account. A common rule is to risk no more than 1-2% of your total account balance on a single trade.
Take Profit ($)
Definition: Your profit goal for the entire trading session. If your total profit reaches this amount, the bot will automatically stop to secure your winnings.
Example: If you set this to $10, the bot will stop as soon as your total session profit is $10 or more. This is a disciplined way to take profits off the table.
Stop Loss ($)
Definition: Your safety limit for the entire trading session. This must be a negative number. If your total loss reaches this amount, the bot will automatically stop to prevent further losses.
Example: If you set this to -$50, the bot will stop as soon as your total session loss is $50 or more. This is your most important safety net.
Max Consecutive Loss
Definition: The bot will automatically stop if it loses this many trades in a row, regardless of your Stop Loss amount.
Recommendation: This protects you from a bad losing streak caused by unfavorable market conditions. A value between 6 and 10 is a sensible starting point.
Cooldown (s)
Definition: The number of seconds the bot will pause after a trade (win or lose) before looking for a new opportunity.
Recommendation: A cooldown of 3-5 seconds is wise. It prevents "revenge trading" immediately after a loss and allows the market to produce new, independent data.
Min Volatility Index
Definition: This measures how many different digits (from 0 to 9) have appeared in the recent tick history. It's a measure of market "randomness."
Recommendation: A value of 5 or 6 is highly recommended. If the volatility is too low (e.g., 2/10), the market is stuck and unpredictable, making this strategy very risky. The bot will patiently wait until the market is "lively" enough to trade safely.
Tick History Size
Definition: The number of past ticks the bot analyzes to make a decision.
Recommendation: Start with the default (25). A larger history (e.g., 50) is more conservative and stable. A smaller history (e.g., 20) is more aggressive and reactive.

Risk Management Deep Dive

Class, this is the most important lesson. How your stake changes after a win or loss will determine your success. Let's examine each plan with examples.

Scenario Setup: Our Initial Stake is $1 for all examples.

Plan 1: Fixed Stake (Safest)

Mechanics: The stake amount never changes. It's simple and predictable.

Example Journey:

  • Trade 1: You risk $1. You lose.
  • Trade 2: You risk $1. You lose.
  • Trade 3: You risk $1. You win.

Teacher's Note: This plan is excellent for testing the strategy itself, as it removes stake management from the equation. It's the slowest way to grow, but also the most controlled way to lose.

Plan 2: D'Alembert System (Balanced)

Mechanics: A gradual "stair-step" approach to recovery.

Example Journey:

  • Trade 1: Risk $1. Lose. Next stake = $1 + $1 = $2.
  • Trade 2: Risk $2. Lose. Next stake = $2 + $1 = $3.
  • Trade 3: Risk $3. Win. Next stake = $3 - $1 = $2.
  • Trade 4: Risk $2. Win. Next stake = $2 - $1 = $1 (back to base).

Teacher's Note: This is a sensible middle ground. It's less aggressive than Martingale but recovers losses faster than a fixed stake. Be aware that a long losing streak can still cause the stake to grow significantly.

Plan 3: Adaptive Recovery (Recommended) Default

Mechanics: A "smart" recovery system with a built-in safety brake.

Example Journey (Settings: Recovery Increment 50%, Loss Streak Reset 3):

  • Trade 1: Risk $1. Lose. Next stake = $1 + ($1 * 0.50) = $1.50.
  • Trade 2: Risk $1.50. Lose. Next stake = $1.50 + ($1 * 0.50) = $2.00.
  • Trade 3: Risk $2.00. Lose. 3rd loss in a row! The safety reset triggers. Next stake = $1.
  • Trade 4: Risk $1. Win. Next stake resets to $1 anyway.

Teacher's Note: This is recommended for a reason. The 'Loss Streak Reset' is an essential safety feature that prevents your stake from spiraling out of control, which is the main danger of other recovery methods.

Plan 4: Anti-Martingale (On Wins)

Mechanics: Aims to capitalize on winning streaks by increasing the stake only after a win.

Example Journey (Settings: Factor 2.0):

  • Trade 1: Risk $1. Win. Next stake = $1 * 2.0 = $2.
  • Trade 2: Risk $2. Win. Next stake = $2 * 2.0 = $4.
  • Trade 3: Risk $4. Lose. Next stake resets to $1.

Teacher's Note: This strategy feels great during a winning streak but can give back a chunk of your profits on a single loss. It's for traders who believe in "hot streaks" and market momentum.

Plan 5: Martingale (High Risk) Use with Extreme Caution

Mechanics: The most aggressive recovery method. It aims to recover all previous losses plus a small profit with a single win by drastically increasing the stake after each loss.

Example Journey (Settings: Factor 2.2):

  • Trade 1: Risk $1. Lose. Next stake = $1 * 2.2 = $2.20.
  • Trade 2: Risk $2.20. Lose. Next stake = $2.20 * 2.2 = $4.84.
  • Trade 3: Risk $4.84. Lose. Next stake = $4.84 * 2.2 = $10.65.
  • In just 3 losses, your stake has grown over 10x!

Teacher's Note: I cannot overstate the risk here. While mathematically sound in a world with infinite money, in reality, you can hit the table limit (Max Stake) or empty your account very quickly. This is not recommended for beginners.

Teacher's Recommendations & Final Checklist

Choosing Your Market (Symbol)

The symbol you choose affects the bot's speed and behavior.

  • (1S) Indexes (e.g., Volatility 100 (1S) Index): These are very fast, providing many ticks per second. This means more trading opportunities, but the market can be very chaotic. This strategy can perform well here, but the risk is higher.
  • Standard Indexes (e.g., Volatility 75 Index): These are slower and more stable. You will see fewer trading signals, but the analysis is based on less "noisy" data, which some traders prefer.

Recommendation: Start with a standard, popular index like Volatility 75 Index on your demo account. It gives you more time to observe the bot's decisions without being overwhelming.

Final Pre-Flight Checklist

Before you click "Start Bot" on a real account, ask yourself:

  • Have I tested these exact settings on a demo account first?
  • Is my Stop Loss set to an amount I am truly willing to lose?
  • Do I understand my chosen Risk Management Plan and its potential dangers?
  • Is my Take Profit goal realistic for my risk settings?

If you can answer "yes" to all of these, you are ready to begin. Good luck!
